NIAS is seeking athletes throughout the North West and New England regions who are passionate about developing their potential both on and off the field and are looking for opportunities on the pre-elite sporting pathway.
Sports for 2020 include (age of applicants turning in 2020):
- AFL (boys and girls)- 12 to 17 years
- Athletics (boys and girls) - 13 to 17 years
- Basketball (boys and girls) - 12 to 15 years
- Golf (boys and girls) - 12 to 17 years
- Hockey (boys and girls) - 16 to 18 years
- Lonestar (Individual sports) - 13 to 17 years
- Netball - 14 to 16 years
Sporting programs will consist of skill development sessions and camps, which will be held within the region from November 2019 to May 2020.
The skills program follows a structured approach concentrating on a range of individual skills and development.
Fitness sessions focusing on the importance of building core strength to improve balance and technique are developed and tailored specifically for each sport.
Guest coaches ensure that the program remains fresh and innovative.
Athletes will benefit from the diverse experience of coaches, offering a range of perspectives and new ideas to motivate and encourage their development.
Athletes will attend the Life Skills Education Day, which will be covering education sessions on Goal Setting, Resilience, Opportunities beyond sport, Wellness and Nutrition management, Testing catered for each sport and Healthy mind/healthy body.
NIAS is also calling for nominations for enthusiastic and motivated coaches (head coach, assistant coach and team manager) across all sports.
This is a great opportunity for coaches to further develop their skills both on and off the field.

Sport: Hockey
Position: Striker, attempting to score goals!

Age: Seventeen
How long have you been involved with NIAS? I've been playing hockey for around 11-years, but this is my second year in the NIAS squad. They are a great bunch of guys to go through the academy system with.
What are your goals in hockey? I want to be the best player I possibly can be and to quality for, and be successful at, the Nationals.
Highest achievement: Winner at State Championships in U18s division.
Hero: Liam Smith and Nick Farmer, both of whom have had a great influence on me on and off the hockey field.
