Going up against several The Kosciuszko hopefuls, the four-year-old proved too strong for the competitive field, storming home to win by just under a length from Mo The Great and Folkstone.
Cavanough told Sky Racing's Thoroughbred Central the victory was an important one for the bay gelding's preparations.
"I wanted him to tick a couple of boxes ahead of the tickets being drawn, and winning here today [Monday] was one of them," Cavanough said.
"I think in order for him to impress any potential ticket holders he needed to blow a good field off the track, which is what he did.
"It was exactly the sort of win we were after."

Cavanough said Syd's Footprints still had "plenty of scope" for improvement.
"He trialled really well last week, which filled us with a bit of confidence," he said.
"His coat hasn't even come in yet, so there is still plenty of improvements for him to make, luckily we still have about three weeks before The Kosciuszko."
Monday's meeting had been relocated to Scone from Tamworth, after the track had been deemed too dry for racing.
In turn, many of Tamworth's The Kosciuszko hopefuls such as Cody Morgan's Over and Above and Sue Grills' Burning Crown looked to impress.
Over and Above was unlucky to get caught in the wake of Syd's Footprints to finish seventh, while Burning Crown put in an impressive display and finished second in the day's final race.
