It was an unpleasant day for a long walk, but McCarthy Catholic College students persevered in their drought relief fundraiser today nonetheless.

Their annual walkathon, which raises money for a chosen cause, took place on a hot, windy, dusty day but a teacher said "the kids soldiered on".
It was part of a suite of activities, including a talent show, raffles and a bake sale, held to raise money for drought relief again this year.
"It's all part of their community service," student wellbeing leader Sharon Stuart said.
"It's been pretty difficult for farmers with the conditions intensifying, and now we're feeling that it's extended to local businesses in town, so everyone's starting to feel the effects of the prolonged drought."

The students' work reaped almost $15,000 last year to be distributed through St Vincent de Paul.
"We are hoping to raise the same amount as last year, if not more," Mrs Stuart said - and the students had been thinking outside their immediate area.
"Since most people we're asking for money are feeling the effects of drought and budgets are fairly tight, we've asked the students to reach out to their city friends and family to ask for their help."
