Anthony Raymond Taylor appeared in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday morning via video link from Shortland Correctional Centre.
He is being held there on 13 charges, including aggravated sexual assault and deprive liberty.
"It's a committal for trial; it's a plea of not guilty," solicitor Geoff Archer told the court.
DPP solicitor Kat McKay said six charges would be committed for trial in the district court in Tamworth.
A related charge of stalking and intimidating would be also referred to the higher court, she said.
Three other charges were withdrawn by the prosecution, and three firearms charges "are to remain in the local court with police", Ms McKay told the court.
"They're not overly complex. They're fairly simple matters," Mr Archer said. "They're the firearms offences."
He said he didn't have specific instructions on those matters and would need more time to finalise pleas.
Detectives from Strike Force Yulong - set up by the state's sex crimes squad and Oxley police in the wake of the attack - were in court for the committal proceedings.
Ms Soars formally committed Taylor for trial, with a trial date not expected before mid-next year. He will formally enter pleas at an arraignment in the district court in October.
"Bail is not applied for, refused today," Ms Soars said.
Detectives will allege the assault wasn't random but that Taylor targeted his victim.
It is the Crown case that Taylor tried several times to contact and meet the woman in the days after the attack.
Detectives seized Taylor's phone and will allege they found videos of the woman that were filmed outside her home without her knowledge.
As part of the investigation, a property in East Tamworth was raided and several items of interest were seized, police said at the time of the arrest.
