For the last two decades the competition has seen singers and guitarists step up to the plate and has help kick start a number of celebrity careers. Pete Murray played regularly at the showcase in 1999.
"Fretfest was one of my earliest gigs, and it gave me the opportunity to play my original music to an appreciative crowd," Murray said. There are four guitars on offer and a spot at the Fanzone stage during Tamworth Country Music Festival 2020, Buchan said.
"I must admit we aren't seeing the high level of entries that has made Fretfest a success in the past," he said.
"But there's plenty of enthusiasm from supporters and we're keen to promote it."
