Featuring outstanding artworks selected from the 2018 HSC Visual Arts examination, the exhibition provides insight into students' creativity and the issues important to them.
Their works are also providing learning opportunities for 2019 HSC Visual Arts students and teachers from the Tamworth region and the wider North West.
This year ARTEXPRESS 2019 covers a broad range of subjects from mathematics and architecture, environmental issues to cultural and gender identities, and are delivered in a variety of expressive forms including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photo-media, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, video and animation.
As part of Tamworth Regional Gallery's commitment to providing access to the arts - a principle priority since its opening 100 years ago - the gallery hosted dedicated ARTEXPRESS workshops for both teachers and students earlier this month.
Run over two days, the workshops aimed to provide visual arts teachers and future students with a better understanding of how to achieve the best results in HSC major works and a background to the Art Express selection process.
The workshops provide teachers and students with a better understanding of how to achieve the best results in HSC major works.
Attracting attendees from Manilla, Glen Innes, Emmaville, Barraba, Bingara, Gunnedah and Tamworth itself, the teaching workshops were guided by former head of Visual Arts HSC Examinations Ron Prat and leading local artist Michelle Hungerford.
While Mr Prat shared his experience and understanding of the HSC visual art syllabus, Ms Hungerford led an art-making workshop exploring the practical processes and methods involved in developing a body of work for exhibition.
Oxley High School visual arts teacher Sasha Radford said the workshops and access to the exhibition were a great learning experience.
"The time to discuss the trials and tribulations of the Visual Arts HSC, and marking of the body of work with Ron Prat, an exceptionally experienced visual arts teacher and marker, was invaluable. It was also a fantastic opportunity to view the install of ArtExpress."
ARTEXPRESS 2019 will be on exhibition until Sunday 22 September in Gallery 1, Tamworth Regional Gallery.
