Shower singers, shy singers and "non-singers" are invited to Bar Choir Tamworth, to have a drink or two, learn their part, then belt out the '90s classic Cranberries song Zombie as the grand finale.

Local woman Frances Rodger has organised the session at the Welder's Dog, based on the Brisbane-born Pub Choir concept.

Studies have found singing with other people can make you happier, healthier and even smarter - and Ms Rodger said people didn't need any formal training to "sound amazing".

"Personally I don't believe there's a single person out there who can't sing; they just need bit more assistance in appreciating their voice for what it actually is," she said.

A strata manager in her working life, Ms Rodger said singing had always been "a side passion" all her life and hoped the bar choir would become a regular event.

Zombie was "one of the best songs to start with [because] it's one we all sing along to and like to hash out" during a night out.

Singers will hear some technique basics, learn their part, warm up then get singing with Urban Chiefs as the support band.
