A CHILD is in a serious condition in hospital after being run over in the driveway of a Tamworth home.
The young child suffered numerous injuries in the accident in Cossa Street on Monday afternoon.
Police have been told the child was knocked down when a car reversed out of the driveway, shortly before 4.30pm.
Ambulance paramedics responded and treated the child for head injuries, before the patient was rushed to Tamworth hospital.
Police said that, after an initial assessment, the child was flown to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle with serious injuries. The condition was unknown on Tuesday night.
Police said investigations were continuing into the circumstances of the accident.
It's the second accident of its kind in as many days; a toddler was struck by a reversing car in the driveway of a Granville Street home in Inverell on Sunday night.
The 19-month-old was taken to Inverell hospital and suffered a suspected broken arm, bruising and grazing.
The toddler was then flown to Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick for specialist treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers are still investigating the accident.
