Clifton said while he was happy with the win, his side didn't make the most of its chances.
"The scoreline was tight at the end of the game but to be honest, I think their goal was one of their few circle penetrations for the game," Clifton told the Leader.
"We didn't make the most of our opportunities in front of goal.
"It's been the story of our season in a way, we have struggled to convert chances and a short lapse in concentration has cost us."
Oliver McGill scored Tudor Wests' only goal for the afternoon, while experienced players like Sam Lobsey starred in defence.
"At times we got bogged down by their defence," Clifton said.
"Instead avoiding players like Lobsey, we tended to hit it straight to them.
"That coupled with the fact their goal keeper had a blinder of a game, made it really difficult for us to score.
"In a way it was a bit of a learning curve for our younger players to learn from going forward."
Clifton said his side would look to use the remaining five games of the season to "fine tune the things we do well".
"One good thing about our side is that we have a really tight team-first game plan," he said.
"Hopefully in the next few weeks we can work on getting those things down pat and ready for finals.
"Whoever finishes first goes straight into the grand final and at the moment we are only one point out of first place.
"So, we will be doing everything we can to finish on top and hopefully make life easier for ourselves come finals."
In the round's other match, a goal from Mitchell Burrows helped the Kiwi Diggers pull off a 1-0 upset over Workies.
