TAMWORTH'S Country Music Festival is still regarded as the gold standard for events in regional NSW with the city's trademark shindig bagging the top gong at a recent awards night.
The festival won gold in the major festivals and events category at this year's regional tourism awards.
Warialda's Faraway Domes also took home the top prize for best new tourism business, while Armidale's City Centre Motor Inn won bronze in the standard accommodation category.
The festival and other first-place winners will now progress to take on the state's best in tourism.
"Finalists in this year's program were of a high calibre with a number of first-time entrants on the list," awards' chairwoman Jane Barnes said.
"We are thrilled to recognise the best of the region's tourism industry today and wish our winners the best of luck as they progress to compete against operators from the entire state."
