Issac Farmilo was the difference between the two sides, finishing the game with five goals.
However, the five-goal win was not enough to satisfy Workies' coach Andrew Farmilo, who said he wanted to see a more complete performance from his side in the coming weeks.
"I think our first half was really good, but we weren't able to really replicate that in the second half," Farmilo told the Leader.
"I'm not sure if that was due to us switching off as a side, or if it was down to Souths lifting, but we conceded a few goals in a row, which was disappointing.
"However, we finished off the game with a few more goals to get up 8-3, which was pleasing."

Farmilo said turnovers around the pitch hurt his side in the second half.
"In the end, I think Issac's ability to finish in front of goal was the difference between the two sides," he said.
"I thought Toby Climpson (two goals) and Lachy Butler were also really good for us throughout the game.
"The only negative about the game for us was how many times we turned the ball over. It's something we will certainly work on in the coming weeks."
Workies will now turn their attention to their clash with the Kiwi Diggers on July 28.
"Kiwis are coming off a good win on Sunday, so they will be full of confidence," Farmilo said.
"It should be a really good test for us to see where we are at.
"We should have a few players back from injury for that game.
"While it's never ideal to have key players missing from the side, it has been a good opportunity for some of our younger players to have a run in first grade.
"They will benefit from experience and hopefully apply some pressure for spots in first grade."
