AS NINE celebrity and 'The Block' host Scott Cam opened the Mudgee Small Farm Field Days organisers and exhibitors alike were nervous about the prevailing weather conditions and whether things might turn nasty.

Mr Cam, who owns a block at Mudgee and has been a regular at the field days for the past 20 years, said it was a privilege to open the event.
"We know how tough everyone is doing it, so it's great the community is coming out to support the event, especially in these tough times."
At the BA Pumps site David Soderstrom reckoned someone should have gagged the weatherman.

James Sullivan, chairman of the Australian Rural Education Centre, the body trusted to organise the field days, on Monday morning was relieved.
"It was a really good couple of days," he said, "but we were all a bit nervous at the start."
He said gate taking were comparable to previous years.
"Saturday could have been bad, but then the sun came out and the families came along and it turned out to be a really good couple of days."
He said feedback from exhibitors had been positive.
