TWENTY of the region's brightest junior stars will be looking to shine at the PCYC's annual Nations of Origin competition.

The annual event showcases a variety of sports including rugby union, soccer and netball.
Tamworth PCYC will be represented in rugby league by the Kamilaroi South Goannas, who will take on other teams from the state's traditional nations.

Tamworth PCYC youth manager Senior Constable Andrena Sandison said the club would enter both a girls and boys team in the week-long competition.
"Both sides will compete in the under-16 competitions and during the three weeks they have been training together, they have gelled really well," Sandison said.
"Every PCYC in the state is entering teams in the competition and it is an initiative we fundraise for at the Tamworth PCYC through the year."
The week-long tournament, held at the Lakeside Sports Complex, will also allow the youngsters a chance to socialise with peers from around the state.
"It really is something all of the kids have been looking forward to for a while now," Sandison said.
"The kids are competing for a shield, but there is always a great social side for the kids as well.
"The team will be coached by Zeta Knight, who was with me when we first went to the Nations of Origin in 2013, so it is great to see how its grown over the years."
Sandison said the trip "wouldn't happen without the support of our volunteers and parents".
"We've had a lot of support to get to this point and we are really looking forward to it," she said.
The competition is part of the PCYC's 2019 NAIDOC Week celebrations.
