NSW Water Minister Melinda Pavey the government was listening to water users, who have called for clear rules.

"We're delivering a robust water metering framework to better manage the use of water in NSW for current and future generations," Ms Pavey said.

"Since 1 April, all new non-urban water meters being installed must be accurate, tamper-proof and auditable.

"From 1 December, all surface water pumps 500mm in diameter and above will need to comply with the new rules.

"The Water Metering Roadshow is an important opportunity for regional water users to learn about the new rules, when they will come into force, and how they will be affected."

Ms Pavey said the sessions would also be an opportunity for the community to provide feedback on proposed minor regulation changes.

"Water is a precious resource and we all need to work together to ensure it is properly managed," she said.

The workshops will be hosted by experts from both the state's water watchdog, Natural Resources Access Regulator, and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment - Water.

Moree will host the first session on Monday, July 15, at the Max Centre, followed by a session in Narrabri the following day at the Crossing Theatre, with both starting at 10.30am and finishing at 1pm.

Tamworth farmers will have to wait until the following month, with the roadshow coming to town on Tuesday, August 6, at the Tamworth Services Club, from 11am to 1.30pm.

There will also be a webinar seminar on Thursday, August 1, at 11.30am.
