A new recruit - from not too far away - has joined the Gunnedah Police station.
Out of 260 officers, Cameron Taylor was the only one to join the Oxley Police District after graduating from Goulburn Police Academy on May 3.
He was inducted at the Tamworth Police Station before hitting the local beat in Gunnedah about six weeks ago.
The probationary officer is no stranger to the area, spending his high-school years in Tamworth.
After school, he studied at university before applying for the NSW Police Force, starting his training in August last year.
"I just thought that I'd enjoy it and I could help people," he said.
The 21-year-old spent six weeks shadowing two senior constables and "putting my knowledge into practice".
"It's great here. I enjoy working with everyone," he said.
The probationary constable is on a three-year tenure in the Oxley Police District and in a year's time will earn his stripes.
