Jack Davis will represent his country at the 2019 BMX Championships in Belgium after starring in the sport over the past 12 months.
It will not be the 17-year-old's first time at the event, having previously competed at an under-13 level in 2015.
However, this year will mark the first time the 2019 Tamworth Regional Council Sportsman of the Year will compete at the elite under-19 level.
"This will be my first world titles as a junior elite, which is exciting," Davis told the Leader.
"It's always exciting going to the world championships, but it is also nerve wracking going up against the best in the world.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge for sure."

Currently, the former junior weightlifting champion is busy preparing for the championships in Wisconsin by going through a strength and conditioning program.
The solo tour of the United States comes after Davis made a successful return from a broken collarbone by claiming silver at the Australian BMX junior elite finals in May.
"Training has been going really well and it has been really consistent," Davis said. "I haven't had any problems with the shoulder as of right now, which is super lucky."
Davis said his background in weightlifting was helping him build his strength ahead of the world showcase.
"The main thing I have been working on is getting strong," he said.
"We think that being strong is super important when going down the eight metre hill. I think weightlifting has certainly helped me a lot as gym work is super important in BMX."
Davis said he had no expectations heading into the world championships.
"I try not to have expectations going into racing," he said.
"The goal for me is to open people's eyes and hopefully do well."
- The UCI BMX World Championships will run from July 23-27 in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium.
