The school breeds Kamilaroi Shorthorns at their stud on Gunnedah Road, and took six to the Dubbo sale, returning with an impressive clearance rate of 100 per cent, at a sale that returned a clearance rate of just over 50 per cent.

While four of the bulls were sold under the hammer, the remaining two went after the sale according to year 11 cattle team student Leisl Cooper.

"We did pretty well considering the conditions - we were really happy to sell all six," she said.

"It was pretty interesting to see what prices came back given the current conditions."

The stud's top bull, Kamilaroi Quandong, sold for $10,000, with the next best two going for $7000 each, while another went for $6000, and the remaining two fetching $4000 respectively.

Cattle team manager Kathy de Jong said the show and sale success was a great reflection on the hard work the students have put into the animals over the past 12 months.

"We always aim to breed sound functional cattle, with a good amount of musclining and correct structure and functionality that are commercially acceptable," Mrs de Jong said.

"We were very honoured to sell all six, and are very thankful for the supporters of the school - the purchasers all acknowledged the school, and the underbidders too - the support we got was amazing."

The National Shorthorn Show and Sale saw 115 bulls go under the hammer, with just 57 sold during the sale.
