Snow in Tamworth, northern slopes and New England: photos

One look out the window revealed a blanket of white snow, single-digit temperatures and below zero that were enough to have everyone pulling out the winter woollies.

At Hanging Rock, a number of families got out among the cold weather to play in the snow in what some dubbed the best snowfall since 2014.

Resident Tony Bourne even stopped for a fish.

Snow measurements from Tamworth and Region Weather around Sheba Dam and Hanging Rock got as deep as 8cm.

Temperatures were as low as -0.3 degrees at around 7am at Hanging Rock, but as far as Walcha, Guyra and Mount Kaputar National Park also saw snow.

In Guyra the dusting started as early as 1:15am and continued throughout the morning and the cold front brought with it winds of up to 30km per hour.

The stunning landscapes brought with them some slippery conditions, a number of roads were closed and drivers urged to use caution.

On Wednesday the weather is expected to clear, with partly cloudy conditions and a maximum of 15 degrees in Tamworth.
