Mr Jones, 41, was last seen leaving a home in Newton Street, Armidale, about 5.20pm last Tuesday.
NSW police divers drove up last Wednesday, bringing sonar technology to use while searching the local dam.
Sonar technology is similar to searching on a archaeology dig small areas are examined at a time. the process was diligently conducted by the missing man was not located.
"A sonar technique did not locate the body," Superintendent Scott Tanner said.
"Whilst this is a good indicator, it is not 100 per cent due to the bottom of the dam.
He said the divers have completed the search using sonar and have returned to Sydney.
"Whilst all indications are that the person went into the water, police are continuing all avenues of investigation. Police will continue to search the dam and surrounds over the next few days," Superintendent Tanner said.
Police began a search within the dam area last Wednesday, and asked police divers to attend.
The divers left their deep dive training camp at Avon Dam, south of Sydney, and arrived in Armidale mid-afternoon to search Dumaresq Dam. They began their preliminary investigation at 3pm Wednesday and concluded on Saturday.
Motorcycle police and Armidale State Emergency Service volunteers continued to support the ongoing search.
