"In the final I put in a really good lap in," he said. "The guy that won was just too good on the day."

It was only his fourth time racing in the junior elites after making the jump up in class at the Oceania Championships in January.
"It's a step up into the big leagues," he said.

But he wasn't, by his own admission, prepared mentally for the race.
"For the Pro Spectacular [at the nationals] and Aussie titles, I stepped up mentally, which I was really pleased with," he said.
He was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the pro event but said his performance gave him a confidence boost heading into the junior-elite final on Saturday.

He is about to pack up and head over to the US to do the summer racing over there.
"I'm really looking forward to that," he said. "I really enjoy racing over in the US."
Later in the year, he will return to the US for the Grand Nationals.
"As far as this trip goes, I just want to be consistent and get some good results," he said.
