Hosting the New England Nomads, the Roos were locked in an arm wrestle throughout the day, with both side's having their turn in the lead.
However, experienced Nomads campaigners Angus Quail (six goals) and David Richards (four goals) were able to drag their side to 15-11-101 to 14-6-90 win.

Roos coach Tony Bishop said his side wasn't "good enough for long enough" on the day.
"We were in the game for most of the day and in front at three-quarter-time," Bishop told the Leader.
"However, they had the run of it late in the game and kicked the last few goals to get across the line.
"I think we lacked a bit of midfield depth, which was the difference in the end.
"It was a great game to watch, we had our old boys function going throughout the day and a lot of those guys told me they were impressed with the standard of play."
Bishop praised Bowen's 10-goal haul, saying he was "a super player".
"Our forward line structure was really good," he said.
"We were fairly economic and converted the chances we did have in front of goal.
"If we can continue to do that going forward we should be pretty competitive."
The Roos will now turn their attention to an away trip against the Inverell Saints, while the Nomads will return to Tamworth to take on the Swans.
"Playing at Inverell is probably the toughest away trip on the fixture," Bishop said.
"We as a team, need to find a way to improve.
"There was some positives to come out of Saturday's game, but I'm not one to accept a loss, I want our guys to have high expectations.
"We will work hard on the training track this week and hopefully take a strong side to Inverell."
