John Hoffman, 31, remains in custody after he appeared in Armidale Local Court on Thursday charged with failure to stop in a police pursuit, driving disqualified and prolonged, sustained loss of traction.
Police tried to stop Hoffman in Canambe Street in Armidale on Wednesday before they allege he ignored them and took off.
He was arrested after his sedan collided with a police car and struck a tree shortly after 10am, near the intersection of Apple Tree Hill Road and Rockvale Road.
Police allege Hoffman is a disqualified driver and reached speeds of up to 100km per hour in a 50km zone during the police chase.

The car flipped onto its side in the crash and the police car sustained minor damage, Hoffman was then taken to Armidale hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
He spent Wednesday night in hospital under police guard.
A sentence assessment was ordered in court on Thursday, the case returns for sentence on July 1.
