The Swans head to Narrabri for their season opener on Saturday flush with confidence after finishing runners-up in the pre-season Crossroads Cup, and numbers.

"From where we were this time last year to this year is a complete turnaround," Swans coach Paul Kelly said.

"We might have taken 17 blokes to Inverell. Now we've got about 30-35 blokes that could play on Saturday."

"The club is in a good spot."

On the back of their resurgence last season and their Crossroads Cup performance, they go into the season with high hopes.

"We know we're going to be really competitive and if you're really competitive you give yourself a chance," Kelly said.

He couldn't be happier with the team that will take the field against the struggling Eagles, who will play the opening round but are no certainties to continue for the rest of the season.

"We're at full strength bar probably one player," he said, adding that the side that will play on Saturday is "a lot better side" than the one that went down to the Gunnedah Bulldogs by a point in the Crossroads Cup final.

"We've got a lot more depth and more experienced players."

He highlighted their speed as being one of their biggest assets this season.

"I think we've got a lot of speed in our team," he said.

"That will definitely help us."

They've also got a bit more experience in the middle of the park, which will enable them to attack a bit more through the midfield.

"The midfield previously had to run the game out," Kelly said.

"Now we've got plenty of rotations we can do through there. That will give us a lot more run through the midfield."

That was on show at Narrabri earlier this month.

"I think we went forward really well," he said.

"Our 50, we went in there a lot of times and got good results. Previous times we had to really fight to get into the 50 and it didn't result in much."

The Swans were victorious out at Narrabri last year in what was one of a number of firsts in several seasons they achieved last season.
