The 16-year-old allegedly broke into the Susanne Street house about 3.45am and stole keys to a four-wheel-drive.
He's then accused of stealing the car which was later spotted doing 'burnouts' in the South Tamworth area by witnesses, police claim.
Officers were alerted and the vehicle was dumped in John Street.
Police searched the area and found a 16-year-old Tamworth boy who was arrested. The car was seized by police.
He was taken to Tamworth police station where he was later charged with aggravated break-and-enter, take and drive conveyance without consent and other traffic offences.
The teen was refused bail and appeared in an out-of-sessions bail hearing in Tamworth Children's Court on Friday morning where he was refused release by the court.
He will front a Sydney children's court on the weekend.
Police said investigations into the incident are continuing.
