There a number of sporting events on around the region on Good Friday too:

About 200 skiers from all across the country have travelled to Moree to compete across the three events; slalom, jump and trick.

Hundreds of pilots will take to the skies over Easter for the Paragliding State of Origin.

A full field of 180 pilots from around Australia will launch off Manilla's Mt Borah, Manilla from Good Friday.

One of the largest paragliding events in the world, the competition is aimed at novice pilots with experienced team leaders coaching them along to fly as many cross country kilometers as possible daily. Read more

The Northwest Church will also have its traditional Good Friday service at the Oxley Lookout.

It begins at 9am and there will be a bus service from the bottom of the hill. There will be a free pancake breakfast following the service

St Edward's Parish South Tamworth will have the following services on Friday:

- 8.30am Outdoor Stations of the Cross (School Parking Area).

- 3.00pm Solemn Veneration of the Holy Cross with Holy Communion.

St Nicholas' Catholic Parish Tamworth will have the following Friday services:

- 10am Stations of the Cross

- 3pm celebration of The Passion of the Lord including, liturgy of the word, the adoration of the cross and holy communion

St Paul's Anglican Church will have a Good Friday service at 9am.

There will be many other congregations gathering on Friday.
