Tamworth Lioness Club has taken it into their own hands to brighten up the holiday celebration with a treat for Meals on Wheels recipients.

For the last few years, the ladies have snuck into the South Tamworth Scout Hall to lend a paw to the Easter bunny with delicious hampers.

"World Service Day is a project that asks Lions and Lioness Clubs to do something for the community, we've been doing these Easter buns for many years," Tamworth Lioness Club member Lesley Callcott said.

"Very often these people don't have visitors for Easter so it's a bit of a connection with the outside world to know that someone is thinking about them.

"Plus it's a fun morning for the Lioness Club, some of the grandchildren come along and they enjoy it."

With 220 packages to put together on Tuesday morning the ladies had to pull up their bootstraps to try to get it all done in the usual hour.

In each bundle a Meals on Wheels client will get a hot cross bun and some Easter eggs to enjoy.

Every month the Lioness Club volunteers to do a Meals on Wheels drop, so many of the clients are familiar faces.

Ms Callcott said the ladies like to get their grandchildren involved because it teaches them valuable skills and the importance of doing things for others.

"I think we should all encourage the younger ones to do volunteer work because a few organisations are closing down because they don't have volunteers to go on," she said.

"The ages of the volunteers who are there go up and there's no younger ones to replace them."
