Hoy isn't sure how long he'll be out for at the moment but is expecting to be without him "for a while".
Yarnold picked up the injury only about 15 minutes into the game.
"That upset our rhythm for a little bit," Hoy said.
They had started in scintillating fashion, scoring three tries inside the first 10 minutes.
"Then everyone thought they could score a try and we went off the rails a bit," he said.
The Highlanders took advantage, hitting back with a couple of tries.

Despite a bit of a rev-up at half-time, Hoy thought Inverell came out the better side in the second half, the Rams' issues from the first half continuing.
Rather than build the play up they were "trying to score off every phase".
Hoy pinpointed the injection of former skipper Will Fletcher as when things probably started to turn around.
"He was a little bit more of a voice out there and gave them some direction," he said.
Once they found their rhythm again they "got on a roll", converting a 38-10 half-time lead into a 42-point win.
"We were all pretty happy," Hoy said.
"Inverell gave it to us for a while. They were pretty solid, didn't throw in the towel at any moment."
Breakaway Thor Crombie was the only multiple try-scorer in the 11-try performance.
Dom Bower was strong at fullback and picked up the three points. Second rower Sione Kamato also had a strong game and was the players player while winger Charlie Keen earned the two points.
