Narrabri pacer Kid Montana has scored the 10 barrier in the feature of the day - the Wee Waa Cup - after a slick win at Armidale last Sunday recording a mile rate of 1.57.6 for 1609m.
The Wee Waa Cup will be contested over the longer distance of 2160m.
Reinsman Chris Shepherdson, who handles Kid Montana for his uncle and club president Peter Shepherdson as trainer, summed up the Armidale win in taking out the Ducats Earthmoving Armidale four-year-old stakes.
"He is a nice honest horse and he enjoys this track at Armidale," Shepherdson said.
"I got in a good race position on the favourite's back [Courageous Leo] in the race and I thought he was the horse to beat. I thought if he was happy to do the work, I would leave him.
"I had to come wide around the final turn and hit the line strong. He [Midnight Montana] has got a nice little sprint on him and he tries his heart out, so that is the main thing."
Kid Montana held a 2m win over Queensland pacer Ykikafil (Dayl March) and Cronin (Mitch Faulkner) another 11m away third.
Narrabri has a seven-race program on Sunday with the first race to start at 1.30pm.
TAMWORTH pacer Coralie Joy was back in the winner's circle at Maitland on Monday afternoon, taking out the Neath Hotel Pace.
After taking advantage of the one-by-one with Coralie Joy, reinsman and trainer Richard Williams seemed content with the race tempo set by race leader Franko Blue (Dan Morgan) before making a three-wide run around the final turn to come away for a 1.8m win over Sunday Sesh (Andrew Bourke) and Milly Bromac (Leigh Sutton) a neck away third.
Coralie Joy had a mile rate of 2.00.2 for the 1646m race. It was race win 14 for the eight-year-old mare.
THE Armidale HRC wrapped up its Carnival of Cups meetings last Sunday in fine fashion and once again, the track was "on fire" with Rocknlachlan from the Geoff Harding stables, trained at Bobs Creek, creating a new track record of 1.55.9 for 1609m taking out the Bill Barraclough and Kevin Ward Memorial.
The race offered a Missile Gig as the trophy and Armidale HRC president Peter Munsie summed up the involvement of both Bill Barraclough and Kevin Ward to the club in his presentation speech.
"This race was in honour of two of the greatest stalwarts this club has ever seen - Bill Barraclough and Kevin Ward," Munsie said.
Bill was on the original committee 50 years ago at Armidale and worked tirelessly for the club while Kevin was the treasurer since the reformation of the club five years ago. The contribution by these two fellas to the Armidale HRC has been enormous."
Kudos once again to Les Enks for his superb efforts as the track curator on a voluntary basis at Armidale.
It was also good to see Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall in attendance at the Armidale meeting and sponsoring a race. Great to see the personal involvement, which was warmly appreciated by the club.
Kudos once again to Les Enks for his superb efforts as the track curator on a voluntary basis at Armidale.
THE Roberts Morrow Chartered Accountants Armidale Golden Horse Shoe for Three-Year-Olds saw Menangle Park-trained Our Ultimate Julie (Jarrod Alchin) take out the feature. Our Ultimate Julie came into the Armidale race after finishing second in a Group 1 race the week before at Bathurst to No Win No Feed.
Our Ultimate Julie is raced by former Armidale resident Scott Whitton.
An added bonus to the Armidale meeting was reinswoman Sheree Tomlinson who made a flying visit to NSW from her NZ base to finish second with Barrett to Rocknlachlan in the Memorial gig race after driving a winner at Newcastle on Saturday night. She then headed to Maitland on Monday for another winner before flying back to NZ.
SEVEN Rippin Aces from the Jamie Donovan stables collected the trophy of a service to Ultimate Art courtesy of Kirsty and Michael Formosa in taking out the Neville Yates Westside Laundromat Pace.
With Mendelshon (Andrew Millard) leading the field and Shadow Boxing (Dean Chapple) racing out in the breeze, Donovan placed Seven Rippin Aces in on the leaders' backs.
A three-wide run around the turn into the home straight saw Seven Rippin Aces gain the upper hand over the field.
"He got to Shadow Boxing pretty easy and he went to the line nice," Donovan said of the four-year-old gelding who had a 4.8m win over Shadow Boxing, with Mendelsohn another 3m away third, with a mile rate of 1.58.8 for 1609m.
GREAT news to hear that Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson has been announced as the new Minister for Racing. Kevin Anderson was first elected to the NSW Parliament in 2011.
CEO of Harness Racing NSW John Dumesny said before being appointed as the Minister, Kevin Anderson had been closely involved with harness racing in his local area.
"When immediate action was required for the sustainability of harness racing at Tamworth he was fully supportive of HRNSW's acquisition of the former showground," Dumesny said.
