THE Boggabri Roos will take a lot of confidence out their reserve grade trial match victory over the South West Robins.
A strong 56-30 victory over the Robins has filled Roos head coach Shane Rampling with confidence ahead of his club's next trial match against the Narrabri Blues on April 13.
"The hit out against the Robins was a really good chance for us to see a few of our potential first grade players have a run," Rampling told the Leader.
"It was particularly good to see one of our new recruits, Kahn Junke have a run, if the trial match is anything to go by, he will add a lot of experience and class to our club this season.
"I think that was something we lacked a bit last season and something we can improve on."
As well as Junke, Rampling said he was equally impressed with a number of other Roos players.
"I think Nick Miller was really impressive, as was Bailey Lennox and Steve Taylor," he said.
"Work permitting, it will be really special to see Nick line up alongside his brother Nathan, who played for us last season.
"The two are from Bathurst and have played some high-level footy in the past and really should add a lot to the side.
"As for Bailey it has been really great to see him take the step into open-age footy from the under-18 team last season."
This season will be the first time Boggabri will field a reserve grade side alongside their first grade team.
"From a reserve grade perspective, it was really good to see the hard work they have been putting in over the pre-season pay off," Rampling said.
"We have been slowly building up our player numbers during the pre-season and it is starting to come together.
"At the moment we still need a few more under-18 players, so if there are any young guys thinking of having a run we are more than happy to have you."
Saturday's trial match at Collins Park will see all four of the Roos teams take the field for the first time.
"It should be a really good day for our club," Rampling said.
"Our ladies league tag side also got a win over the Robins and are looking pretty good for this season.
"It could be a bit of a challenge fielding four sides this weekend, but it is something we are going to do all season so it will be a good test for us.
"I think the Blues will be a big a test for us and should really provide us with a good measuring stick for where we are at heading into the season."
