Armidale's CBD is set to light up in a kaleidoscope of colour for the New England Street Arts Festival.
Illuminate Armidale is a three-hour mini Vivid that features the city's most historic buildings.
"The Post Office, the old Court House and the Tattersalls Hotel are just a few of the buildings that come to mind just offhand," Armidale Regional Council mayor Simon Murray said.
"It will really showcase of the history of this city's CBD, and there will be guaranteed fun for everyone available on the day. "This is new and I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will be the most colourful of all the events Armidale holds."
Well-known local artist Angus Nivison will open the festival with the Dixieland Jazz Group to kick off an afternoon of live entertainment with youth band Earth Device.
The lights will be switched on from 7pm, just before the Charlie Chaplin silent movie City Lights features on the mall stage half an hour later.
Enjoy an accompaniment to the movie by New England Conservatorium of Music director Russell Bauer.

For foodies, Cinders Lane will be packed with food vans from burgers to pizza, ice cream or coffee.
Families can keep the kids entertained with art and craft demonstrations from 2pm, bubble art, face painting, felt art and play dough.
The New England Street Arts Festival is on in Armidale on April 6.
