Raised in one of Tamworth's country music dynasties, the 28-year-old has made an unlikely foray back into jazz after more than a decade out of the spotlight.
Her first show back at speakeasy The Press had crowds literally lined up out the door.
And, it was all thanks to a New Year's resolution, she said.
"This year I made one, it was one thing I wrote down because I didn't have a hobby and I loved singing," she said.
"I would say it to myself every year.
"I just started singing jazz and for this one my voice just seems to sit in the pocket well for this genre."
Byrnes' musical tuition began under the watchful eye of talented musician and cricketer John Muller.
Her grandfather Geoff Brown was one of the first artists to play country music in Tamworth, and at 12-years-old Byrnes would head to The Pub for the Country Music Association of Australia's monthly get-together.
"There'd be local musicians and people in the music industry who would teach you really simple things," Byrnes said.
"Anything from how to to hold a microphone to songwriting for those who played instruments and were talented.
"I always put singing on the back-burner because I never thought I was good enough really, until I was 16 or 17 when I met John Muller."

With a newfound confidence and impressive stage presence, Byrnes is back, reminiscent of Nora Jones or Diana Krall.
And, crowds can catch her at Taste Tamworth festival's High Tea in the Garden.
Byrnes said she's looking forward to her second show.
"It is nerve-wracking being in front of people but it's something I love to do and the more you do it the easier it gets," she said.
Set among the beautiful Botanic Gardens, audiences can enjoy sweet and savoury treats from Le Pruneau to Byrnes' classic jazz sounds at $35 per person or $260 for a table of eight.
Taste Tamworth festival's High Tea in the Garden event is on Tuesday, April 9 from 1pm to 3pm.
