Tamworth Regional Council lauded the space as a step in the right direction for events in 2017, but a lack of shade left the community hot and bothered.
The new plans will see mature shade trees, nine living umbrellas with vines and seats, a ribbon seat and tactile hazard markers installed at an extra $400,000 price tag.
... we've had an overwhelming response, essentially they want shade, shade and shade.
- Brent McAlister
"I certainly wouldn't say council got it wrong, council always envisaged shade and seating - it's a matter of getting the right formula," the council's planning and compliance director Brent McAlister said.
"The pot plant trees were obviously a first attempt but after consultation and feedback with the business community and public a different tack was taken.
"We've been down to see the business owners around Fitzroy Street and we've had an overwhelming response, essentially they want shade, shade and shade," the council's planning and compliance director Brent McAlister said.
A name change could also be on the agenda, Mr McAlister suggested Fitzroy Square or Fitzroy Boulevarde.
In the longer term, the council hopes to install overhead special effect lighting that would allow the colour of the mall to be changed at the flick of a switch.

The road through the plaza is non-negotiable as it provides needed traffic flow, but, some art projects down the track could inject more colour into the space.
The extra $400,000 would come from council's Civil Construction Reserve Funds and councillors will vote on the proposal on Tuesday night.
If given the go-ahead construction will start in June or July and the project would be finished by October, in time for Fiesta La Peel.
