Tamworth Inner Wheel asked the Tamworth Choral Society to hold a fundraising concert to support the respite service, and together they raised $2300.
When respite centre's manager Andrew Brown received the donation, he wanted to keep the money local and benefiting the community.
So he turned to the Tamworth Mens' Shed and asked them to build a bench.
Mr Brown said there must be something special in the lacquer, because whenever people sit down on the bench, they start chatting to each other.
"It sounds like a small thing, but this bench has become a really big part of our client's day," Mr Brown said.
"They come out here every day, so they get a bit of exercise, and sit out here and enjoy the sunlight, and each others company.
"Before we had bench, a lot of them would sit on their walkers against the wall, so this has made a big difference."
