THE Armidale School’s girl rowers are confident months of preparation will result in their best times of the season, at the NSW Schoolgirl Head of the River at the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) on Saturday.

For the first time at the Schoolgirl championships, the TAS girls will be hitting the water in a four (rowing with single sweep oars) rather than a quad (two oars per rower), as well racing as a single sculler, all over 2000m.
Training commenced in November, with the rowers also attending camps and regattas at Grafton and Taree during the school holidays, and the NSW Rowing Championships and Sydney Rowing Club regattas at SIRC this term.
“We've all taken to sweep well and confident we can improve on our personal best time set at Sydney Rowing Club regatta two weeks ago and finish the season well. It’s also been great to see the hard work that Ramona Nedianu has put into rowing a single scull being rewarded," said the girls' captain of boats, Kim Bange.
"However we finish, everyone’s just aiming to finish on a season high."

The girls’ four comprises Bange (Narrabri), Tayla Frahm (Moree), Lily Neilson (Armidale), Molly Dooner (Armidale), with coxswain Hattie Oates (Tamworth).
Ramona Nedianu (Inverell), who only began rowing late last year, will be taking to the water solo, racing a single scull.
“Rowing a single scull doesn't come naturally and requires a lot of balance," she said.
