Dear Adam Marshall
Since being elected to represent Northern Tablelands you have distinguished yourself as a dedicated, hardworking and effective MP. You are across all of the area of this vast electorate and most importantly, you are across all the state issues we face. You get things done. Adam, I and most other Northern Tablelands voters salute you.

But, there is a problem. Before Barnaby became a new father, I and many others detected that the Nationals brand, both state and federal, was beginning to smell. As time went by, the smell became offensive. Your Nationals were perceived as not listening to the people.
Our elected members seemed to have overlooked or worse, forgotten, that they were elected to carry out the wishes of the majority of their electors.
Some months ago I perceived the Nationals would become irrelevant and thus, redundant. I wrote to you, warning of the coming demise of your party, especially at federal level. Due to your personal common sense and exemplary work ethic, I suggested you abandon the Nationals and come federal election time, stand as an independent against Barnaby. I reckoned you’d have been-shoo in.
Most people in New England would think you’d be a shoo-in at state level. However, thinking voters will see past your exemplary performance and realise that voting for you will give weight to the National brand. The Nationals have lost much credibility in recent times, a lot of it related to the shocking state of affairs relating to the maladministration of our water resources.
Adam, I find it very painful to write this letter; despite your ability and appeal, I cannot vote for the National Party. I abhor the party’s blind objections to opposing measures against climate control and their ingrained love of coal. I worry about my grandchildren. I worry about the dreadful environmental legacy our generations are leaving them.
Adam, I remain a fan and a friend but with sincere regret, I must cast my vote elsewhere.
Warren Brown, Inverell
