Steele was a finalist in a hotly contested under 13-14 years boys 50m freestyle competition.
The rising young star began training with the local club in August 2017 and has progressed rapidly through the area rankings to NSW country level.
Andre registered a personal best time of 26.34 seconds and hit the wall in a flurry of water to claim eighth position in a field of 57 swimmers - just a fingernail away from a medal.

Fellow Gunnedah Club member, sixteen-year-old Maddie Coombs, was chuffed with a personal best time of 29.08 in the 50m freestyle and equalled her best in the 100m event.
Amelia Lush, 12 years-old, nailed an improved time of 31.35 seconds during the 50m freestyle event and another personal best in the girls under 11-12 years 100m backstroke.
