Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson said the win was built on defence, knowing that Brisbane would come hard at them.
"What is in our DNA is the defensive end. That’s what we built (the win) on," Gleeson said.
"We have one of the best defenders in the history of the NBL (in Damian Martin) and we need to support that.
"Nick Kay did a great job there … keeping them under 80 points went a long way towards winning us this match."
Kay was strong in his battle with Cam Bairstow finishing with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
Victory in the finals would see Perth claim its ninth NBL championship title.
Game two of the Melbourne United Sydney Kings semi-final series will be played on Sunday.
