On Friday, investigators said the man had been "assisting with inquiries" but no arrests or charges had been laid.
The officer-in-charge of Gunnedah police, Inspector Michael Wurth, said the child approach on Thursday morning was not a physical confrontation or lewd comment, but was a "concern for police".
He said a man had been spoken to twice and was not known to police, but officers had stepped up patrols of the school areas in a bid to discourage any suspicious behaviour.
