Tory McCulloch and the Lions Club of Tamworth have claimed the top gongs at the Seniors Week awards at the Tamworth Community Centre on Friday.

While the Lions Club were honoured for their service to seniors and the community, the 89 year old Mrs McCulloch was recognised for 65 years of service to the Country Women's Association, after first joining the Spring Ridge chapter in 1954.

"At the time it was somewhere to go for some companionship, and just to talk to other people," she said.
"Whatever the community needs we do - there is a great sense of giving back involved and while ever I am able to help out that is what I will do.
"I certainly didn't expect this, and I am very grateful to the girls who nominated me and did the work - they are the guilty party - it was a really nice surprise."
Meanwhile Lions Club secretary Col Eunson accepted the Group of the Year award for an array of community work, particularly the annual Seniors Concert, which has been running since 1973.
"It is not why we do it, but it is very lovely to be recognised," he said.
