But for the second successive year, the campdraft element of the rodeo has been scrapped due to the drought. The rodeo will be held on Saturday.
Melissa Griffiths, secretary of the Bendemeer Rodeo and Campdraft Committee, said 414 senior and junior competitors had entered this year.
She said the rodeo would boast increased prize money for its premier events, the open bull ride ($1000 to $1500) and the open saddle bronc ($1200 to $1700).

“We’ve got extra sponsors this year,” she said, adding: “The junior events are looking really good."
The rodeo starts at 12 noon, with the main events commencing at 6pm.
The cost is $50 (family), $20 (adult) and $10 (pensioners and children aged under 16). There will be entertainment and pony rides.
Money raised at the event is funnelled back into the Bendemeer community. It also goes to organisations handling drought, flood and fire relief.
