Residents of Bendemeer will be limited to only 15 minutes of daily outdoor watering between 6pm and 8pm from Monday next week with Tamworth Regional Council to enforce level three water restrictions.
The council's water director Bruce Logan said the Macdonald River – Bendemeer’s primary water source – has stopped flowing and brought on tighter water restrictions.

“Under council’s drought management plan, the introduction of level three water restrictions is triggered when there is zero daily flow of the Macdonald River,” he said.
“The Airlie Road bore, the town’s back up water supply, is being prepared and tested for use this week to be brought into service and ensure the Bendemeer community has the water they need for their daily use.”
Bendemeer will join Manilla on level three.
Nundle is on level four, while Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal are on level two
Attunga and Barraba remain on permanent water conversations measures, the lowest level of restrictions.
Residents can check which level applies to their home as well as the rules for each tier of restrictions through the council website.
What level three restrictions mean
- All use of sprinklers is banned – including sprinklers, sprays, microjet sprays, fixed hoses and subsurface dripper systems.
- Buckets and watering cans can be used to water between 6pm and 8pm without limitation.
- No washdown of hard surfaces outdoors, including with pressure cleaners.
- Pools can be filled during the 15 minutes of allowed hose time.
- Irrigation of Council’s Category 1 and 2 parks, gardens, reserves and playing fields continues in accordance with the Drought Management Plan.
- All previously issued New Turf Water Management Plans are null and void.
- Recycled, greywater and rainwater can be used only from tanks not connected to the treated supply – rainwater tanks must be stand-alone and not able to be switched to the treated supply.
