Cr Murray has been in Sydney and Canberra today, in a series of high-level meetings about state and federal funding for the proposed University of New England (UNE) campus.
UNE has put forward its vision of a 500-person campus in the city's CBD, which would include on-site accommodation for up to 100 people.
Last week, The Leader revealed the development was waiting on a $10-million commitment from the federal government.
The NSW government is prepared to commit the vast majority of the funding, while Tamworth Regional Council has offered up the $3-million velodrome site on Peel Street.
The University of New England is also prepared to put a substantial amount of money towards its proposal.
At a recent community meeting, UNE said it was seeking to bring disciplines from each of its three faculties, and wanted input from the community about course design.
More to come following this afternoon's announcement.
