The bush fire in the Tingha, Gilgai, Old Mill and Stanborough area has burnt through almost 38,000 hectares and is being controlled.

With weather predicted to stay hot and dry with light winds, residents are being asked to remain cautious.

“There will be an increase in fire behaviour as crews undertake incendiary work to reduce the fuel for the main fire,” NSW RFS inspector Paul Best said.

“There are some slight increases in wind tomorrow but we are confident we should be able to get the fires under control in the next 48 hours depending on deteriorating conditions tomorrow.”

Guyra Road between Tingha and Gilgai remained closed on Monday as dangerous trees threatened to fall.

Fires in Tabulam and Wallangarra are both at advice level as firefighters back burn to reduce risks to residents. At least 7,200 hectares have fallen victim to the Bruxner Highway blaze, just west of Tabulam.

It continues to spread around Sugarbag Road, Leslie Creek Road and Kims Way area, growing closer to the road.

The Bruxner Highway will be closed from 4:30pm on Monday between Tabulam and Tenterfield.

Firefighters are in position to protect property that may come under threat, waterbombing aircraft are working to establish containment lines around the fire.

In Tingha a recovery point has opened at the Sport and Recreation Centre.
