There’s also regular events that keep residents occupied.
Tamworth Growers’ Market provides our community with a regular source of seasonal produce every Saturday morning, a market where you can buy direct from the growers.
“We don’t require our growers to be organically certified,” market manager Nancy Harlock said.
“But we do require them to follow ethical and sustainable practices.
“We operate every Saturday, so the produce is picked at its best, without the long storage and transportation times sometimes involved in food retailing.”
Tamworth Growers’ Market is a good place to buy artisan and handcrafted items, as well as products which help promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
A regular feature of the market is the Backyarders’ Table operated by the Tamworth Community Organic Gardening Group. This stall welcomes produce and baked goods from members, some contributing regularly and others when they have a surplus in their garden.
“It’s worth visiting the market to see what’s on the Backyarders’ Table each week,” Ms Harlock said.
“There are likely to be fresh eggs, heirloom vegetables, local honey, luscious cakes and pastries … whatever our clever and creative members have been busy at this week.”
There’s also a “no waste” theme running through the market, with value adding including olive oil soaps, beeswax wraps and handmade skin care products. Its location alongside the Tamworth Regional Playground in Kable Avenue makes for a great family outing.
Parents can browse the market stalls while their children enjoy the playground.
“More stalls are always welcome,” Ms Harlock said.
“We’d love anyone interested in being part of our market to come along and see what we do, chat to our regular stallholders and get a feel for whether the Tamworth Growers’ Market would fit with their business plan.”
The market operates every Saturday morning between 8am and 12.30pm in Kable Avenue under the shady trees alongside the playground.
