Dan Morris, Jack Davis, Ashley Teakle and Zac Whalan showed they can match it with the best in the country, with all four making it through to at least the semi-finals in their respective divisions.
Morris rode his way to the top of the podium in the 17-24 mens cruiser division and was also competitive in a strong 17-24 mens 20 inch division. He made it through to the final but was unfortunately consigned to eighth after getting tangled with another rider.
Whalan rode well all weekend in the 12-years boys 20-inch division but after leading the way on Saturday slipped a pedal and was knocked out in the semi-finals.
Racing in her first National Series event, Teakle qualified through to the final of the 16-years girls 20- inch, where she placed sixth.
For Davis the weekend was a learning curve.
Stepping up to the super class men and racing against Australia’s top riders, he missed out on the semi-finals on Saturday by a mere point.
Unlike the other events where the preliminary mottos were held on Saturday and the finals on Sunday, the super class was run as two different races.
Taking onboard the lessons from the first day, Davis made it through to the semi-finals on the Sunday.
Sitting in third in his semi, with the first four to advance to the final, he lost a bit of momentum on the second last corner and slipped back to fourth. He was then just pipped on the line to miss out on the final.
He and Teakle are now preparing for the second round, which will be held in Perth on March 2 and 3.
