It’s a hectic and demanding schedule foisted on the three Hunter and North West Racing Association clubs – and it is not helping any of them.
That can be seen by the smaller-than-normal nominations for the Walcha Cup meeting on Friday and the two seven-horse fields at Monday’s Tamworth meeting.

Nominations for Friday’s seven-race Quirindi Cup meeting close at 11am on Monday.
Tamworth starts its seven-race meeting ON Monday at 2.10pm with the H&NW Country Championship Heat March 10 3YO Maiden Plate (1000m).
The club is preparing for that $150,000 March 10 Country Championship Heat, where Scone trainer Brett Cavanough could have as many as six runners – such as Star Boy, Cosmic Engine and Sid’s Footprints.
Cavanough has two runners in Monday’s opening race – Andiamo Miss and Zealot – and seven runners overall for the day. After a spell, Andiamo Miss debuted with an eighth at Newcastle over 900m last September.
The three-year-old daughter of Benfica will jump from barrier one, with Grant Buckley aboard. Robert Thompson will ride debutante Zealot, a gelding son of Casino Prince.
