The championships, to be held at Scully Park, offer the chance of winning berths in not only Greater Northern Tigers sides but also Country outfits.
Greater Northern area manager, Scott Bone, said there are pathways for the talented young players to reach Country sides, with possible tours abroad and across the nation as rewards.
“The players have the chance to play for the Greater Northern Tigers and more than just one Country Championship game,” he said.

“They were knockout games in the past. Now they get to play at least two games, against North Coast at Coffs Harbour (March 6) and Northern Rivers in Armidale (March 16).
“The under-23s are in their third year while the girls will be playing open tackle (instead of ladies league tag) for the first time.”
The Tigers games in Armidale will be played at The University of New England’s Bellevue Oval, and will include the Tigers’ under-16 and under-18 teams as well.

The Tigers 16s and 18s will play their first-round Andrew Johns Cup and Laurie Daley Cup match, respectively, against the Central Coast on February 16. Then they play the Newcastle Knights, in Tamworth on February 23, and Parramatta, in Singleton on March 2.
The junior Tigers link with the senior under-23 and women’s sides in Coffs Harbour on March 9 and against Northern Rivers in Armidale on March 16.
Warialda’s Peter Stevens is the coach of the Tigers 18s, and former Group 21 and Northern Division star Steve Haylen is the Tigers 16s coach.
“So there is plenty play for – for our talented young players,” Bone said.
