This Saturday’s annual Walcha race meeting will be renamed in honour of the late Cathie Brennan who was a successful local horse trainer and much-loved member of both the Walcha and NSW Racing communities.

Born to Kelvin and Christine Meredith in Sydney in 1967, Cathie married Walcha local Wayne Brennan in 1985, and the devoted couple had two children: Luke and Andrew.
With a passion for horses, Mrs Brennan obtained her trainer's license in 1990 and proceeded to train about 90 race winners at meetings across NSW while working for Tamac Stud in Walcha.
Cathie was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and continued to train until it was physically impossible to do so. She lost her battle with the long term illness on August 6, 2018.
In honour of Cathie, the Brennan family and friends are sponsoring a prize for the lead jockey at the Cathie Brennan Memorial Race Day.
“Cathie loved her time at the Walcha Racecourse,” said Mr Brennan. “We are very grateful to the Walcha Jockey Club for their support.”
