The 57-year-old cannot be named by order of the court and did not appear in Tamworth Local Court this week because of a strike at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) in Sydney, where he is being held.

“All of the corrective officers have walked out of the MRRC for 24 hours, I am told," Magistrate Julie Soars said.

Solicitor for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Andrew Baker said the DPP would prosecute all matters, which would “take the same trajectory”. 

Mr Baker said the matters were expected to be linked when the case reached the district court but are alleged to have occurred at different times.

“All three matters come from the one investigation,” he told the court. 

“They’re related in that sense.”

Detectives allege the accused filmed a 13-year-old girl on September 28, 2014, in Tamworth. 

He is charged with one count of aggravated filming of a person’s private parts without consent.

He was issued a court attendance notice for that matter while in custody, accused of possessing child abuse material between November 2016 and 2017 in Tamworth. He had been arrested by Oxley detectives in Tamworth in September.

Solicitor Garry Johnston said “there’s been a significant progression in the matters”.

A forensic procedure order – an application for police to take evidence from the accused – was listed in court, but Mr Johnston said he had spoken to the officer-in-charge of the case and “it was my understanding that it wouldn't be pressed”.

He said the defence needed a two-week adjournment to resolve the matters. 

The accused made no application for bail and will remain behind bars until mid-February.

“I’ll note there is negotiations going on,” Ms Soars said.
