But she’s not afraid to take charge.
Lioness, her new album, is 100 per cent female-made from musicians to production, artwork and marketing.
“We don’t want the door opened anymore, we can open the door ourselves,” she said.
“I sound like a stark-raving feminist, I don’t mean to.
“But it’s like when you’re in a group of people looking for a leader, the internalised misogyny in all of us goes, ‘Where’s the bloke in charge?’ That’s changing.”
The film clip is the first in country music to feature a same-sex couple in a principle role, a fact that Cole hopes one day will be nothing more than a side note.
It’s a step towards breaking up the ‘blokey, farty, jokey boys club’ and shining a much-deserved light on women that have quietly contributed to the industry for years, Cole said.
“The song Lioness is about love and highlighting women who’ve been overlooked,” she said.
“I’m a scaredy cat but I feel like a Lioness around my wife.
“I’m so much better when she’s there, I get myself into trouble… but when Libby’s there I make better decisions, things don’t happen to me as much.”

When Cole started in country music, she busked with Kasey Chambers and the Dead Ringer Band outside CH on Peel.
In those days the sun would come up and she’d still be at The Powerhouse with Lee Kernaghan singing on the piano.
“We’ve kind of outgrown that part of it,” she said.
“It still happens every now and then but I’m personally not as wild as I used to be.”
This year marks two decades since The Young Stars of Country were together, a combination of Cole, Adam Harvey, Darren Coggan and Felicity Urquhart.
There’s quiet rumblings of a run of reunion shows in the latter half of the year.
Cole is nominated for two Golden Guitar Awards, for Traditional Country Album of the Year and Female Artist of the Year.
The country music favourite has been chosen to present an award on Saturday night alongside Lee Kernaghan, Troy Cassar-Daley, Sara Storer and more at Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre.
